So, we had some pumpkins and watermelons we grew this year that never really got to a very large size. I’d say bigger than a softball, but smaller than a soccer ball. Last night something made off with 3 of the watermelons and 1 pumpkin. No trace of them having been chewed, they are just gone. Oh yeah, something has also been chewing the lower branches on one of the pine trees.
Possible culprits I know of would be horses, deer, antelop, coyotes, rabbits.
The only problem is nothing of these seem very likely to me. The horses don’t come that close to the house, never seen deer that close.
Would coyotes actually go after pumpkins and watermelons? That seems wacky.
And the rabbits are too small to move these things and would probably eat them where they lay.
Very odd!
